I have a life long love of sailing and boats, inspired by my parents. In my second decade I raced Lasers, at club level and a couple of national events. I have also instructed dinghy sailing in this country in Chichester Harbour, Spain and the USA. In my third decade I owned a small classic yacht, but spent more time maintaining than sailing...! In recent years sailing has been a rare pleasure on the boats of friends and family. Running is an interest I'm yet to develop, but I hope the combination of an active job and some runs will help stand me in good stead for this event that marks our fourth decade!

Running has been an important part of my life since representing schools in athletics teams. This love has continued throughout my 20s ,30s and now 40s! (Gulp) Anything from Park runs, fell runs to full marathons. My sailing experience is very limited! But having grown up by the sea, with fanatical sailing friends, I was always a willing crew on various dinghies and yachts. And somewhere in the loft is my RYA Level 1...!

I have been sailing (and running) since I was a child and started on dinghies and cross-country running but became serious when I joined the Army aged 16. I quickly gained experience in big boats, gaining my RYA Coastal Skipper aged 20 and Offshore Yachtmaster by 26. I have regularly participated and skippered in races, notably the Fastnet three times. Running wise I have continued to run throughout my Army career, and while never the most competitive still maintain a good pace for a 40 year old!
