EADS Innovation Works team are entering for the third time but this time in an X99 rather than our more usual Reflex 38. Basically we’ve found out that we get on well enough to live even closer and try with a smaller boat. The X99 won in 1999, and having also entered a number of times since, it is fitting that she goes back to Barmouth so see old friends. The Team represents the EADS research division that has strong links with Wales being based in Newport.

The three peaks yacht race is a fantastic event that means the whole crew must work together in often difficult and fatigued circumstances. This race really does require the whole to be more than the sum of the parts to finish let alone race - where else can you get such a challenge.

Most years we bring the yacht round from the Solent and discuss, with some trepidation “Why do we do this race” all the way from Wales to Scotland?. With the usual ideas about challenge, company, scenery etc. out of the way we found after much sole searching that the real reason is that the pubs are too close on the south coast.

This race is unique, the whole team is drawn back again and again - we love it!
