Team Profile
The whole team is made up of friends back again for a third year as EADS Innovation Works. This does not fully represent the depth of experience and love of the race within the team. The sailing team of Geoff West and Gary Clayton return as defending champions with Piers Cobham , joining the team for the first time, following his second place last year. Geoff has won the Daily Telegraph Cup 4 times and the Tilman once. This will be his 12th race so he should now know the way! Gary is a long term short handed companion of Geoff and is competing in his 3rd race following many years of three peaks deliveries. Piers is also a multiple participant with two very competitive campaigns as skipper of the HOD 35 Hazards Chase in 2008 and 2009, so the team has valuable three peaks experience throughout the sailing department. Moving to the runners the experience continues. Martin Beale is an experienced three peaks runner, winning the King of the Mountains trophy with EADS Innovation Works in 2008 and Flapjack in 2007. Martin Indge completes the team and was part of the EADS Innovations Works success in 2009. Enough of the CV’s, this race needs experience, skill and know how but all this is insignificant compared to the luck that needs to come your way. EADS Innovation Works team fully understands that the dominant factor is summed up by the comment from the 2008 winner Greg Marsh “the winner is the team that make the least catastrophic mistakes”. The whole team would like to thank the organizers for their hard work and wish competitors the best of luck and enjoyment – see you in Barmouth.

Bio

EADS Innovation Works team are entering for the third time but this time in an X99 rather than our more usual Reflex 38. Basically we’ve found out that we get on well enough to live even closer and try with a smaller boat. The X99 won in 1999, and having also entered a number of times since, it is fitting that she goes back to Barmouth so see old friends. The Team represents the EADS research division that has strong links with Wales being based in Newport.

The three peaks yacht race is a fantastic event that means the whole crew must work together in often difficult and fatigued circumstances. This race really does require the whole to be more than the sum of the parts to finish let alone race - where else can you get such a challenge.

Most years we bring the yacht round from the Solent and discuss, with some trepidation “Why do we do this race” all the way from Wales to Scotland?. With the usual ideas about challenge, company, scenery etc. out of the way we found after much sole searching that the real reason is that the pubs are too close on the south coast.

This race is unique, the whole team is drawn back again and again - we love it!
